Bringing the History of Devonport into the Present

20 Dec 2017

Plymouth City Council has been working closely with Phase 1 architects Form Design, The Devonport Naval Heritage Centre and the National Museum of the Royal Navy, to source some historic photographs of what the Oceansgate development site looked like before it was heavily bombed during WWII.

South Yard is the oldest part of Devonport Dockyard, and you can see the main entrance to the dockyard in the top photo which leads into our Phase 2 development, and in front of the gate where you can see the booking office, is where Phase 1 of our development is located.

These three images will be enlarged and displayed as artwork in Endeavour House, with one on each floor.

As you can see from these historic photographs Devonport town used to be a hive of activity – Devonport has undergone huge development in recent years in terms of housing and we are hoping Oceansgate can now deliver the jobs the area needs
