Marine Business Technology Centre Update
01 Dec 2016
Plymouth’s reputation as a hot bed of marine research and development could get a massive boost with plans for a new Marine Business Technology Centre (MBTC) in Oceansgate’s Phase 1 development.
A partnership which includes Plymouth City Council, Plymouth University, Exeter University, Plymouth Marine Laboratory, the Marine Biological Association and The Sir Alistair Hardy Foundation for Ocean Science is submitting a bid for an initial £2.7 million of European funding to launch the MBTC.
The MBTC will provide business support services and networking opportunities for marine businesses, academia and government alike. It will also be able to offer in-sea testing capabilities, which will enable businesses and research establishments to test prototypes for autonomous devices, sensors, instruments, and environmental monitoring devices as well as other analytical equipment.
This will compliment key sector strengths and innovation infrastructure across the South West Peninsula, including aerospace, big data, advanced engineering, and marine renewables.
